You’ve Got TREE-mail! (details & sample letter)
HELLO dear readers! I am ‘rebranding’ our previous tree-planting campaign, the meiLBOX 5+1 Project into something more exciting! The same idea remains (write 5 letters, plant 1 tree!) but this time, we don’t have to write and send letters via snail mail. You still have that option, of course, but in this age of emails and social media, this is even better and will allow us to reach out to more people! You’ve Got Tree-mail is it!
I plan to re-post this blog or create a page for it. Please bear with me. I will begin sending out new emails, moving forward. Once you receive it from me or your friends /contacts, please don’t break the chain. More importantly, please do not spam your friends! It’s better if you write to each person individually. (I discourage mass emails as it defeats the purpose of bringing and sharing warmth and blessings to your friends). A very thoughtful and well-meaning letter always brings so much joy, right? Here is a draft email (feel free to modify or personalize based on your need, for example, if you are greeting a friend on his birthday):
Dear (name),
You’ve got TREE-mail!
I am writing to let you know how much I appreciate our friendship and the many things that we have experienced and shared over the years. We may have chosen to live in different locations) but I’d like to let you know that I will always treasure our fun times together and look forward to experience them again, circumstances permitting.
I am also writing to request for your help. As you know, our communities have been experiencing devastating floods, many of which are aggravated by poor and/or lack of infrastructure, weak waste management system, and massive deforestation, among other compounding reasons. While solutions are complex, there are small things we can do as individuals, families, or communities. One of them is planting trees.
It would then be awesome if you can plant a tree after receiving this letter and send a similar letter to at least five of your friends /contacts. (Of course, the more, the merrier!). It is optional but you may consider posting a photo of your tree /s in your social media account and put the hashtag #youvegotTREEmail. There is no deadline but it will be great if you could plant the tree (or trees) and send the five letters or emails within five months as well. That way, we could help ensure lesser floods in the years to come. Finally, you don’t have to but it will also be nice if you can send a copy of your image/post with your tree’s location to Ms. Anna Suarin via email lovemamaearth [at] duck [dot] com so that we can help her build a database of the trees.
I am so excited to hear from you and hopefully have the chance to see you again soon. Once again, thank you for simply being there.
Rooting, blossoming, celebrating, with you,
(Your name)
I hope this sample letter /email inspires you to begin you You’ve Got TREE-mail community. I also look forward to receiving your feedback, learnings, and stories.
IF you have organized a tree-planting event in your community, please feel free to send me the event’s details and pictures* (via lovemamaearth [at] duck [dot] com) and/or tag me through Instagram. I’ll do my best to share them through a blog post here. For further tips and guidance, you may also refer to my other blog posts:

I will also appreciate it a lot if you can help me in passing the word around about this campaign. The more people who know about this, the more letters we can send, the more love we can express and share, and the more trees we can plant!
THANK you for your help in making this a greener, healthier, and happier world! Namaste!
*If you prefer to send letters via snail mails, you can share/post any of these pictures: (i) a picture showing you in the post office as you mailed your letters/postcards; (ii) a picture showing the stamped letters that you are sending out (please don’t take a picture unless you are already in the post office and are actually sending the letters out); and (iii) a picture of you planting a tree/s.
Mama Earth loves you: To maintain independence, this website is self-funded and this write-up is not a commissioned work. There is no request for donation but if you can plant a tree (or two!) on your birthdays, it will really be awesome and will make Mama Earth very happy! P.s. It’s better if you could join this You’ve Got Tree-mail Chain!
